MPBC presents the North Fork Classic, a season-closing club mini-event that visits the farms, vineyards, inlets and beaches of the northern branch of Long Island’s East End. This year’s edition features a metric (62 mi.) and a century (103 mi.) route, both starting from Mattituck Plaza on Main Road in Mattituck.

The planned date is Saturday October 11th. The ride is open to club members only, but prospects have the option of joining the ride upon registering for a membership.

MPBC offers a discounted ride registration if paired with a new or renewal MPBC club membership. Club memberships completed as part of NFC registration will run through April of 2026.

North Fork Classic Century – From the Farms to the Water

The first half of the Century travels west from Mattituck, going through the farmlands and open roads of Northville, Riverhead and Calverton before turning north through Wading River to Wildwood State Park. From there, riders travel east back through Riverhead, Aquebogue and Jamesport, skirting the Peconic Bay side of the North Fork until Greenport, and continuing east to Orient Point State Park. Riders will then return to Mattituck along the Long Island Sound side of the North Fork, with a stop at Horton Point Lighthouse along the way.

North Fork Classic Metric – Vineyards and Villages

The Metric also travels west from Mattituck until Jamesport, where it turns south and then east along the Peconic Bay side of the North Fork. Riders will continue following the bay through the villages of New Suffolk, Southold and Greenport, before heading out to Orient Point State Park. Riders will then return to Mattituck along the Long Island Sound side of the North Fork, visiting Horton Point Lighthouse and enjoying views of the vineyards all the way back.
MPBC will offer light SAG support and online links to each route and, and we will also include refreshments at the starting point.

SAFETY & EQUIPMENT

Make sure your bike is in good working order with properly inflated tires.  Bring one spare tube, a patch kit, and a hand pump. 

  • All riders must wear a helmet
  • Earphones are not allowed on the Tour
  • For your own safety, you must ride single file and as far to the right as is possible and safe
  • Please obey all the rules of the road.

Some roadways in the North Fork can have fast moving vehicles, thus you must exercise good care and judgment.  Please be courteous to all other users of the roads.

This ride is self-led and mostly self-supported. If you want to lead your own group or tag along with others, click here to see a list of registered riders and their routes. Make sure you have proper ID and be sure to bring a water bottle or two and drink regularly throughout the ride. Lite SAG support will be provided.

RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT (“AGREEMENT”) FOR LEAGUE OF AMERICAN WHEELMAN D/B/A LEAGUE OF AMERICAN BICYCLISTS (“LAB”)

In consideration of being permitted to participate in any way in Massapequa Park Bicycle Club (‘club’) sponsored activities (‘Activity’) I for myself , my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin:

  1. ACKNOWLEDGE, agree, and represent that I understand the nature of Bicycling Activities and that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Activity. I further acknowledge that the Activity will be conducted over public roads and facilities open to the public during the Activity and upon which the hazards of traveling are to be expected. I further agree and warrant that if at any time I believe conditions to be unsafe, I will immediately discontinue further participation in the Activity.
  2. Fully understand that;
    1. BICYCLING ACTIVITIES INVOLVE RISKS AND DANGERS OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, INCLUDING VIRAL INFECTIONS, BACTERIAL INFECTIONS AND OTHER COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND ILLNESSES, PERMANENT DISABILITY, PARALYSIS, AND DEATH (“RISKS”);
    2. these Risks and dangers may be caused by my own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Activity, the conditions in which the Activity takes place, or THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE “RELEASEES” NAMED BELOW;
    3. there may be OTHER RISKS AND SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LOSSES either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I FULLY ACCEPT AND ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS AND ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSSES, COSTS, AND DAMAGES I incur as a result of my participation in the Activity.

     

  3. HEREBY RELEASE, DISCHARGE, AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE the Club, the LAB, its respective administrators, directors, agents, officers, members, volunteers, and employees, other participants, any sponsors, advertisers, and, if applicable, owners and lessors of premises on which the Activity takes place, (each considered one of the “RELEASEES” herein) FROM ALL LIABILITY, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES, OR DAMAGES ON MY ACCOUNT CAUSED OR ALLEGED TO BE CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE “RELEASEES” OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING NEGLIGENT RESCUE OPERATIONS; AND I FURTHER AGREE that if, despite this RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I WILL INDEMNIFY, SAVE, AND HOLD HARMLESS EACH OF THE RELEASEES from any litigation expenses, attorney fees, loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as the result of such claim.

 

I AM 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, UNDERSTAND THAT I AM GIVING UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING THIS AGREEMENT, HAVE SIGNED IT VOLUNTARILY AND WITHOUT ANY INDUCEMENT OR ASSURANCE OF ANY NATURE AND INTEND IT TO BE A COMPLETE AND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF ALL LIABILITY TO THE GREATEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW. I AGREE THAT IF ANY PORTION OF THIS AGREEMENT IS HELD TO BE INVALID, THE BALANCE, NOTWITHSTANDING, SHALL CONTINUE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT.
