Why not be #1 in this forum: Tires...any recommendations? You all ride the same roads I do. My requirements: Light, sticky!, durable. Start posting.

I just got a pair of Schwalbe Stelvio at Brands and I am very happy with them. The are a high pressure tire 145psi. Here's the description for them:

New all slick tread. Fast rolling and durable 'friction resistant' endurance compound center tread. Shoulder compound uses silica mixture for increased grip when cornering. Race guard puncture protection belt creates a durable tire that remains light and supple. Size 700c x 23mm. 235 grams.

Before the Schwalbe's I had two sets of Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp's which are also very good and a high pressur tire (145 psi). The reason I switched was that after having both sets of Vredesteins for 1 year they started to become "flat magnets". Don't quite know why, but they just seemed to start picking up a lot of road junk and I started to get a lot of flats.

I had the Schwalbe Ultremo tires for the past 300 miles...the other nite I saw a cut on the rear tire...all the way through the casing...I glued the cut and booted the tire...then I saw that the front was cut...not repairable. Upon inspection...there were cuts all over the place. Unless your tires are a different compound, good luck!

for me, it's Conti GP4000's or nothing at all. they just released a new version of the GP4000 this summer, called the GP4000s, which i plan on trying out when my rear tire needs replacing. i've heard good things about them so far, but they're pretty new (a few months) and i don't know of a single LBS that's selling them yet. if you want to try them out, you can find them at http://www.probikekit.com, that's probably where i'll end up ordering them from...

the Michelin Krylion Carbon Tires are also great. they're not at light, but are more durable than the Pro Race 2's, at least from what i hear...

I was going to go with the Mich. Pro Race2. I had run Axial Pros for years, NEVER had a flat...never! The Conti 4000S's are expensive for an unknown. I already got burned with the Schwalbe's...I couldn't find a review, other than the ad for it.

they're not exactly an unknown, you can find some rider reviews of them at http://www.bikeforums.net if you use the search feature, that's where i first heard about them. and if they're too expensive, you can go with the original GP4000's too, you can find them locally for less than $40 a tire...

good luck with whatever you go with...

oh ok. chances are they're really expensive there, even with the 10% discount, but thanks for the info...
